Our Pro-Family Approach to Reproductive Care
We believe that families should be free from government intrusion in deeply personal matters. The desire to have children is one of the most profound and heartfelt hopes for many families. For couples on this journey, a miscarriage is an incredibly painful loss, and for those pursuing in vitro fertilization (IVF), the path is often emotional and complex.
Since the overturning of Roe, extreme laws have left doctors and hospitals hesitant to provide standard medical care to women facing miscarriage or complicated pregnancies that threaten their lives or future fertility. Now, even IVF is at risk, along with other crucial aspects of family planning.
These intrusions prevent families from making private decisions that reflect their own values and needs:
-
They limit doctors' ability to save a woman’s life—a wife, daughter, mother, or sister
-
They restrict necessary care that could protect a woman’s ability to have children in the future
-
They threaten IVF, taking away the hope for biological children for many families
-
They restrict access to contraception, disrupting thoughtful family planning
This approach is not pro-family.
We believe families should have the freedom to make choices about their health and futures without undue state interference. Our goal is to protect this space for families, so they can pursue their dreams and fulfill their callings in life with dignity, care, and respect.
Prioritizing the Health and Wellbeing of Our Families
We recognize that few things matter more than the health of our loved ones. Access to affordable and stable healthcare is essential for families to thrive.
There has been tremendous progress in recent years to make healthcare more affordable for families, leading to:
-
A historic level of healthcare coverage, with approximately 93 percent of Americans insured as of the end of 2022
-
A significant increase of 9 million additional enrollees in health coverage since early 2021
-
Working families saving an average of $800 per person each year through expanded subsidies
-
A $35 monthly cap on insulin costs for Medicare seniors, resulting in an average savings of $500 annually
-
The government’s new ability to negotiate with pharmaceutical companies to reduce drug prices
As we look to the future, we support leaders who continue to make healthcare more affordable and accessible, so that every family can get the healthcare they need, without having to worry about excessive medical debt.
Strengthening Economic Wellbeing for Families
We believe economic wellbeing is central to human dignity and respect. A strong economy empowers families to thrive, providing opportunities for financial freedom, homeownership, and the creation of intergenerational wealth.
Good-Paying Jobs
Our vision for a prosperous future focuses on growing the economy from the bottom up and the middle out, with a particular emphasis on good-paying jobs that allow families to live with dignity.
We are committed to continuing efforts to create good jobs and support policies that help families achieve financial stability and long-term prosperity.
Affordable Childcare & Paid Family Leave
Families should be able to make ends meet without sacrificing their well-being. That's why we support continued efforts to reduce costs for families, including:
-
Capping Childcare Costs: Make quality childcare affordable, with families spending no more than 7% of their income on care.
-
Build Back Better Proposal: Expanding access to free, universal pre-K for all families.
-
Increased Funding for Head Start and Early Head Start: These federally funded programs provide free early childhood education and care to low-income families, improving access to quality childcare for families with limited resources.
-
Paid Family Leave: Establishing a paid family leave program, so no one has to choose between their job and family emergencies.
These efforts aim to support family stability and ensure every family has the resources to thrive.
Homeownership
We understand that a home is not just a place to live, but the heart of a family, where memories are made and legacies are built. For many, owning a home represents financial security, equity, and the opportunity to build long-term wealth.
That’s why we are committed to policies that make homeownership more accessible to families across the nation. That's why we support initiatives to:
-
Free Up Starter Homes: Provide a one-year tax credit of up to $10,000 for families selling their starter homes, making more homes available for first-time buyers
-
Support First-Time Buyers: Offer a $5,000 tax credit for first-time homebuyers for up to two years, helping middle-class families achieve the dream of homeownership
-
Jump Start Generational Wealth: Assist 400,000 first-generation homebuyers with grants of up to $25,000, enabling them to purchase their first home and start building equity
-
Expand Access to Low-Interest and FHA-Backed Loans: Federal Housing Administration (FHA) loans and other government-backed loans (such as USDA and VA loans) offer lower down payment requirements, competitive interest rates, and flexible credit qualifications, opening homeownership to a broader audience. Expanding access to these loans can further lower the entry point for new buyers.
Ending Child Poverty
Poverty continues to weigh heavily on families, especially children, who are often the most affected. The financial strain faced by families in need can have a lasting impact, and it’s our responsibility to support policies that offer relief and opportunity.
One of the most successful initiatives in addressing child poverty was the expanded Child Tax Credit (CTC), which lifted 7.3 million children out of poverty. Unfortunately, after the expansion ended, 5 million children fell back into poverty, underscoring the need for continued support.
We stand behind efforts to pass a revised version of the expanded CTC, which would help 16 million children and lift up to 400,000 children out of poverty in the first year. This version is designed to assist larger families, who have long been overlooked.
Supporting policies like the Child Tax Credit is essential to helping families in need. Although the passage of this legislation faces obstacles, we continue to advocate for it, believing that it’s a vital step toward ensuring a better future for children and families across the country.
A Call for Compassionate Gun Safety Policies
Gun safety is one of the most challenging issues facing our nation. With the heartbreak of deadly shootings in schools, houses of worship, and communities—and gun violence now the leading cause of death for children—many of us wonder if meaningful action can truly reduce this tragedy.
At Evangelicals for America, we support policies that protect the safety and wellbeing of all, especially our children. The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act represents an important step toward making our communities safer, including:
-
Enhanced background checks for gun buyers under 21
-
Support for states to implement “red flag” laws that allow law enforcement to temporarily remove firearms from individuals deemed a threat
-
Closing the “boyfriend loophole” by extending gun restrictions to all domestic abusers
-
Over $13 billion in funding for school safety and mental health programs
-
Harsher penalties for illegal gun purchases
We believe that preserving life is a fundamental value, and this legislation’s commonsense measures are vital in helping us honor that value. No child should fear for their safety at school, and no family should fear violence in their place of worship. This law is a step forward, but more can be done to promote responsible gun ownership and prevent unnecessary loss of life.
In contrast, some leaders have chosen inaction, even resisting the pressure to address gun violence when given the chance. We cannot ignore the importance of protecting our communities from harm. The path forward requires unity and a shared commitment to sensible, life-affirming policies that prioritize the safety and dignity of every individual.
Let us continue to build on this progress and work toward a future where every family feels safe and every child has the freedom to learn and grow without fear.
Committed to Safe and Strong Communities
At Evangelicals for America, we believe in creating safe communities where families can thrive. Recent progress shows that efforts to reduce crime are making a real impact. According to recent reports, crime has declined in nearly every category, with violent crime reaching its lowest levels in decades.
This has been achieved through a commitment to public safety measures, including increased funding to support local law enforcement, investments in mental health services, and initiatives aimed at preventing crime before it happens. These efforts reflect a shared value we hold dearly: the need to protect families and create secure neighborhoods where children can grow up free from fear.
Additionally, steps toward responsible gun safety have helped strengthen this foundation. By supporting measures that prevent violence in schools, homes, and communities, we stand together to create lasting peace.
Safe communities build a stronger nation. We stand firm in our commitment to keeping families safe and supporting initiatives that honor our shared values.
Biden-Harris are keeping families safe from crime and violence, but the former prosecutor and Attorney General knows the job isn’t finished. She’ll keep at it and stay vigilant.
Prioritizing Creation Care & Protecting the Innocent
We believe that caring for God's creation and protecting vulnerable children from environmental harm are vital commitments. Just as every person has dignity, we recognize the unique risks pollution poses to children, particularly the unborn, whose developing bodies make them more susceptible to environmental toxins.
Through recent policy actions, we’ve seen crucial steps forward in protecting families from pollutants that threaten health and well-being:
-
Mercury Reduction: New, stricter standards for mercury, a neurotoxin that harms developing brains and hearts, are estimated to yield $1.9 billion in health benefits.
-
Soot Control: Tightened soot standards will help prevent birth defects, save thousands of lives, and reduce lost workdays.
-
Vehicle Pollution Standards: Two important standards are being implemented to reduce vehicle pollution, one through 2026 and another beginning in 2027, together bringing in billions of dollars in health benefits and family savings.
-
Methane and VOC Reduction: Regulations on methane and VOCs, which can trigger asthma and contain cancer-causing agents like benzene, will reduce dangerous emissions by millions of tons.
-
Lead Pipes in Schools: A commitment to replace lead pipes within ten years will help ensure children have access to safe drinking water.
-
Water Safety: The administration has introduced the first-ever standard to combat PFAS and other toxic chemicals in drinking water.
Additionally, investments that prioritize the health of children and families include:
-
School Pollution Reduction: Over $90 million in funding will help schools reduce indoor air pollution and replace lead pipes, making learning environments safer for our children.
-
Water Infrastructure Upgrade: A historic $50 billion investment in water infrastructure, with $15 billion dedicated to removing lead pipes, will protect communities across the nation.
-
These measures reflect a commitment to protecting families and future generations from environmental hazards. We stand for policies that foster clean air and water, which honor both the dignity of life and the need to care for creation.
Upholding Equality and Rejecting Racism
"Are we going to be a country that truly believes in the God-given dignity of every person, and that every family should live in peace and opportunity?
Families can’t fully flourish unless they are free from the harms of racism. For all our families to be safe, for all our children to thrive, and for everyone to have the chance to live out their potential, we must rid our nation of racism and hatred."
Protecting Our Country and Supporting Military Families
The safety of families and the security of our nation are deeply connected, especially for our military families who sacrifice so much for our freedom.
Our leaders must take a firm stand against those who threaten peace and stability, including acts of tyranny, invasions like that of Ukraine, and terrorist threats from groups like Hamas and ISIS. By defending democracy and the rule of law both at home and abroad, they create a more stable world—one that helps keep our military families safe and strengthens security and prosperity for us all.
Through strong alliances and a commitment to uphold our ideals, America stands firm and unified in the face of those who challenge freedom. Together, we are stronger and better able to protect the blessings of peace and security.
